Getting Your School/Classroom in the News

Great Things are Happening in Our Schools. Let's Toot Our Horn!

The GBEA has created a form we call "News Tips." This is a great way to get out the news happening in our schools. News Tips can be about an upcoming school event, a school or classroom project, a unique visitor to the classroom...actually just about anything. However, here are some tips for story ideas:

  • The more unique the story, the better chance it will be covered.
  • Common events such as grandparent breakfasts or schoolwide readings, which are held at nearly every elementary school, rarely are covered as stories, but make good photo opportunities.
  • Give as much information as you can.

Submit your News Tips to the GBEA office 4-7 days prior to the event. School news is usually filler news, so as they plan for the week or day, they will schedule school news items as time or space allows. School news is usually not breaking news, so a late tip most likely won't be covered. All you need to do is fill out your News Tips and send through inter-school mail to LoriBlakeslee. Lori will type it up and send it out to all the local media (TV, radio and newspapers). If timeallows, Lori will also try to get to your activity or event so we can share the information on the GBEA website, under School Happenings.   NEWS TIPS FORM

A Second Way to Share Good News

With digital cameras it is easier than ever to share the great things happening in our schools. The Green Bay Press-Gazette now has a section called "Community Snapshots." E-mail your photos to cs@greenbaypressgazette.com. Photographs must be submitted by Tuesday, three weeks prior to publication. E-mailed photos need to be at least 4 inches wide and 200 dpi. Include with your photo a description of the activity as well as identify who is in the photo(s).

Copy Lori Blakeslee at gbea@gbea.org, and we'll place your photos on the website under "Our Schools."
